Watching 'The September Issue' today in class, with Sienna Miller on the cover reminded me how much I love Sienna Miller...especially in one of my favorite films 'Factory Girl'. I know, this film wasn't received well by critics at all but I never listen to critics opinions. I read them, take them into consideration a bit but I judge things on my own opinion, what I like and what I don't, but what a boring world it would be if we all had the same opinions. Anyway, shall we continue?
Aside from the fact that Andy Warhol & Edie Sedgewick are my two favorite pop culture icons(and I don't give a shit if that might be 'cliche') my favorite thing about the entire film was the costuming. From Sid to Edie, Billy to Andy and back again, the style and demeanor was phenomenal throughout. The costuming for the film was almost entirely vintage selected by costume designer Jim Dunn, which makes the wardrobe for this film that much more phenomenal.
Edie is simply fabulous and this is prevalent from the moment she catches Andy's eye in the lacy cream minidress, chandelier earrings, green headband and cigarette in hand...
She had the 'IT' factor, very few of us are blessed with. Tights & t-shirts & fur coats & accessories & mini dresses and always wearing her signature chandelier earrings and usually puffing away on a cigarette she always looked fucking amazing. Of course the film managed to emulate Edie's style to a T...
...Not to mention Andy's quirky 'hipster' style and the dreamy put-together bad boy look Billy (who we all know is mirrored after Bob Dylan) was rocking.
Even when she fell from grace, her style was the one thing she never lost.
Edie Sedgewick, her style and air are something to be looked at in an articulate way, she had something indescribable about her... maybe it's true only the good die young?
I also thought the movie was a decent portrayal of those featured (Edie, Andy, Bob Dylan) and the love/hate triangle that was definitely a factor in Edie's spiral out of control. It's a fantastic film about the life of one of the most iconic women in pop culture with fantastic clothing and inspirations throughout so if you haven't seen it I suggest checking it out and fuck what the critics say.
I'm hoping between homework and craziness I can make it to the David Bowie Glamball hosted by LuvnGrace tomorrow night, it sounds like such a riot and it's something I don't think I can let myself miss. Followed by week of more craziness.
I'll keep you posted my lovely fashionistas/fashionistos!
