I finally finished "50 Fashion Designers You Should Know", I knew all of the designers featured, hence the title. This book is definitely geared more towards people who somewhat know their shit within the industry, although it's a great book for those who haven't heard of half the designers featured a lot of it won't make sense. There's very brief references to certain things one would have to know about to comprehend. But definitely a good, thorough book for the most part. I actually skipped my favorite designer of all time and saved his chapter for last, I'm sure most of you would agree with me...
Mr. Karl Lagerfeld.
A breif overview: Chief Designer for the House of Chloé, Independant fashion designer at various fashion houses, Chief Designer of haute couture and pret-a-porter for the House of Chanel, Lagerfeld gallery in Paris, collaboration with H&M.
"For the eloquent designer with the occasionally acid tongue designs not only fashion (at the rate of some twenty collections a year), accessories and diverse lifestyle products, he also supplies costumes for operas and films, collects art, designs sets, illustrates, photographs, writes and publishes- all at the same time. If the term "workaholic" did not exist, it would have been invented for Lagerfeld." - excerpt "50 Fashion Designers You Should Know"
Karl Lagerfeld is fucking Superman. Not only is he incredibly intellectual and talented, but he truly immerses himself in all things related to the arts, including rap! "Believe it or not, I love rap!" Karl once tweeted, followed by an article in Harper's Bazaar, in which Karl was to be 'Lil Wayne'.
On top of all this Karl Lagerfeld is a real person, which for me, counts for a whole lot these days in terms of respect. Anyone remember when Courtney Loves stylist had picked out a fake Chanel dress for her to wear to Paris Hiltons birthday party? In her defence her stylist (Katie Grand) was a moron and was fired immediately once Court realized what had happened. In the end Courtney and Lagerfeld collaborated on a project for Harper's Bazaar titled "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fake Chanel" against the manufacturing and distribution of knockoff goods.
And what about when the "KARL WHO?" bags and tee shirts were popping up everywhere? Well, Karl has a sense of humor and took the trend in stride, giving it more legitimacy than ever...
Of all things Karl has done, however, a lot of this credit goes to him being the sole man revive Chanel. The classic, chic Chanel we all know and love at a time when the fashion world had almost dismissed Chanel as a serious haute couture label. And to this day Karl is always recreating Chanel with irony, classiness and above all his genius creativity.
Karl Lagerfeld is Superman.
I for one, have always been a huge fan of the "KARL WHO?" trend, and the D.I.Y Chanel trend we've all seen on the streets and around the webosphere, I dig it. It's creative, it's a new-generation twist to an old classic, it's a little copy-cat, okay a lot copy-cat but anyone who thinks there hasn't been a person on this green earth to think of their "totally original idea" is stupid. Anyway, today Adrien Zalberg from arteest.fr (1 month. 1 designer. 1 collection.) asked for my opinion on the Arteest x Naco Paris (Karl Who?) October collection. Firstly, I want to urge you all to head over to arteest.fr and check it out right now.
I will be needing one or all of these shirts from the "Serie of 3 Lux" collection very, very soon.
There are also mens shirts from the "Serie of 3 Lux" collection. And take a look at Septembers "Renegade Celebrities" collection, which is fantastic as well!
Alright, it's Saturday night and the style whxre is off to hit the town, good night everyone!
