I suck at blogging lately...

I've been on/off sick for a while and I'm going to a doctor soon to figure out WTF is going on... I've posted a few times recently on my more personal blog, †attered†ights. And I'm almost always posting on †attered†ights@tumblr.

I've had a few posts for the style whore about half written, but didn't feel they were really worthy of posting. I keep saying I plan to post more often... and I keep ending up on some sort of hiatus due to my insane lifestyle.




Sally Hansen Salon Effects (260) Glitz Blitz

I would like to note, however, I am officially obsessed with Sally Hansen Salon Effects peel-on nail polish. Glitz Blitz (260) was my most recent purchase... I put these on Thursday last week, using a Sally Hansen basecoat + O.P.I topcoat, they haven't even begun to chip, let alone peel off. lovelovelove... this might be the on-the-go girls holy-grail of nail polish. It's definitely become mine...

Coachella 2011 & Overhaul Plans

The place to be seen in April, Coachella Music & Arts Festival. I only wish I could have made it to the Californian desert this year for the ultimate in music festivities, fortunately Harpers Bazaar caught some snapshots of some of the most stylish party-goers. My next order of business is to start a revamp of The Style Whore but I'm not sure where to start... or what would be the best ideas. I've gotten back to the drawing board to come up with some fresh new ideas and a lot more consistent updating. I have some more Classics and Wardrobe Check! articles ready to go but I feel like I need something more. There's something missing and I just can't put my finger on it...

Apologies!

Sorry Everyone, I am a terrible blogger lately. Again, things have gotten very chaotic and unfortunately 'The Style Whxre' was again sent to the back burner. Along with all my technological malfunctions, well, it's left me on another hiatus. I'm visiting my family back home for the time being and really hoping to step it up a notch when I return.

I want to start a major overhaul of my blogging/online persona. I want to expand to further areas of my obsessions, stylings and musings.

House of BUN & A Brief Update

Last year, I had mentioned a local jewelry designer Carola Alder and her line 'House of BUN'. I attended the launch party for her debut collection "Tutu" and fell head over heels in love. If I wasn't a starving artist, I would kill for one of her pieces, they are absolutely exquisite.

The other day a good friend of mine Alex Yelizarov, a photographer based here in Vancouver @sharpshutterstudios came over for a creative photo shoot. He's sending over the proofs soon and I can't wait to share with you the final shots.

I'm finishing up editing the photos for 'Wardrobe Check! Choice Vintage Pieces Part 2'. This one will feature my great-grandmothers fur coats and a lot of items given to me (...or secretly stolen) from my momma. I'm really excited for part two and should have it up within the next couple days, so stay posted for that.

I feel as if lookbook has become a bit commercialized now, however I will always love the site for inspiration. Now that my camera is back in action, I'll be posting some outfits on my profile there @Lookbook: Alix Kat so feel free to check that out in the near future as well.

A General Update: Moni Haworth, Artwork & Lust List

I have a collection of photos of my favorite vintage pieces for my new wardrobe check, once uploaded it will be on it's way later this week.

In case you haven't noticed I've created a secondary blog to correspond with thestylewhxre, you can check it out here; thestylewhxre a little more personal or on my 'About' page. It's not really much more "personal" per-say, but just going to cover a broader range of topics - which I had initially intended for this blog, but ended up going the full-on fashion blog route. I have a ton of more things that I love and inspire me that aren't fashion related that I will be discussing and peppering it with some of my crazy life stories in here & there. I would love for anyone who wants to get to know that side of me - Alix Daignault and not so much 'thestylewhore' to check it out and experience some art, music, films and a variety of other things that inspire me and I enjoy...

...and speaking of getting to know me better, I've been working on an interview Q&A for clottedartery.com and will let everyone know when that's ready - in the meantime check out the site, it's worth your while.






These photos were all taken by Moni Haworth - my new favorite photographer. You absolutely must visit her website JohnnysBird to see first hand how fucking amazing her work is - not only her work, but her style is something admirable, something not many people can pull off because it's kind of something you're born with.


... I would absolutely kill to meet Moni and listen to Nirvana, smoke and take endless photos - one of the few real woman I feel as if I could really connect with. Although, even just a conversation/interview would make my world spin a little bit faster...

Also this evening I came across another fashion blogger Inam Malik of All in Fashion, there was some artwork posted on his blog that I was immediately drawn to and would love to have hanging all over my studio apartment.







Now, as each of these are signed with 'Inam', I can only assume he is the artist of these amazing pieces. I will have to validate that and make sure credit is given where credit is due - but take a look at his fashion blog and send him a tweet @iNam.

My next call of duty for this post is an updated lust list - but I'm feeling more of a need of an updated wardrobe and will be taking care of that sometime later this week.



Lust List

A lot of people hate glitter and think it's tacky, I am not one of those people. I love glitter - on my eyes, on my lips, on my cheeks, my clothes and especially my shoes. I am dying for a pair of glitter platform pumps, my personal favorites being

The Daffodil Glitter Platform Pumps from Christian Louboutin Spring/Summer 2011 but since I probably won't be able to afford those to-die-for pumps anytime soon I would definitely settle for The Sakura Glitter Platform from Topshop, these babies are killer...


I am dying for a pair of glitter platform pumps and can't wait until I find the pair that calls my name loud and clear... or I'll just have to make a little online purchase or two.

I'm also absolutely obsessed with lipstick, lipgloss, lipbalm (only rosebud) and especially M.A.C lip products - I have a growing collection and always want every color...

Haper's Bazaar March 2011

It's been a long hiatus. Life has taken a few serious turns and has been turned upside down. On top of everything happening (I'm not going into personal details...) my MacBook also decided to break for the fourth time since I got it last December, this time it wouldn't even turn on. I've lost everything and I'm taking a medical leave from school, I'm taking a different avenue right now. I plan to get a part-time job, and pursue modeling further.
I received my MacBook via UPS today, so I'm back up and running, albeit starting from complete scratch minus the songs I have from my 2-year-old iPod. I plan to spend a bit more time blogging again and hopefully get my YouTube channel going once again.



So, to be honest - I was never, ever a Kardashian fan. I didn't have cable for a while when I first moved into my new apartment and spent a lot of time watching 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' - horrible reality television is my guilty pleasure - but I found myself loving it, and them. All of them, Khloe especially. Anyway when I saw Kim on the cover of this months Haper's Bazaar I had to pick it up.

I'm about to make a semi-controversial statement and that is the fact that VOGUE is not my fashion bible, and Anna Wintour really doesn't know absolutely everything about fashion, art, ect. and to be totally honest - I rarely spend my money on VOGUE anymore and haven't in quite some time. Harper's on the other hand, has always been a must-have (and NYLON) I can spend the entire month flipping through the same copy of Harper's and always re-reading articles or falling in love with more items.

This issue of Harper's was no exception. I fucking loved this issue. In the Cleopatra with a K article featuring Kim Kardashian she was channeling her idol Liz Taylor as her role in 'Cleopatra' in 1963.


The Real Daphne Guinness

Even better? Daphne Guinness, I love this woman so much. She must have the most fabulous couture collection ever (and actually purchases all of her pieces). Style is blessed upon rare few, Daphne being one. And upon the passing of her dear friend (and another one of my inspirations) Isabella Blow she purchased Issys entire wardrobe instead of it being auctioned off.

I could go on and on about everything I love about this months Harper's, including the Vampire editorial shot by my favorite man ever Mr. Karl Lagerfeld, an editorial featuring the lovely Chloe Sevigny and a Liza Minelli article from her days at The Factory... such a fantastic issue.

Lust List and some things I'm currently obsessing over will posted soon - so glad to back in the world of technology.

Klosit Photo-shoot, 'Graffiti Love' & Lust List

January has been a crazy month for me catching up with all my college and volunteer work, events and a bit of modeling. I've come to realize my life is far too hectic for me to update as frequently as I was before, but none the less I will still be here to ramble and muse about the current on-goings in the wonderful world of fashion, style, art and beauty. So let's get on with it.

POOQ ME UP

As a lot of you already know I'm currently an intern at the Vancouver-based couture accessories atelier POOQ, which currently specializes in purse hooks but is slowly expanding to more accessories. Currently, POOQ carries three collections of purse hooks - "Vanity", "Bijou" & "Paris Magnifique". With plans to launch a new collection each fashion season, next to come for Spring 2011 will be "Graffiti Love" a collection of purse hooks just in time for valentines day. But don't worry this isn't the typical, cheesy 'love-themed' collection, it's cool and edgy with a romantic twist and I'll be sure to let everyone know when it launches, until then check out the website and browse the current collections.

Lust List
My current lust list is mostly a lot of things to finish getting settled into my new apartment. However, like any other fashion obsessed person there are still things I'm lusting after;


BURLESQUE by O.P.I
I already own three out of the six nail varnishes from O.P.I's BURLESQUE collection (purple, gold & multi-colored). To be honest, I'm usually not one for sparkles - I like my nails very matte but I have been loving these so much; just few coats alone or over your favorite polish and a top coat. It's not too over-bearing and or tacky but especially for someone like myself, who generally opts for a grey-scale color palette they add a little something. Definitely best with short rounded or square-rounded nails.

I absolutely lovelovelove WILDFOX Couture Spring 11/Spring 2011 White Label. I do prefer 'White Label' a bit more and the dress and tank above are must haves for me.

I also want this in black. It's a cream pigment used to mix and deepen colors for your lips - or if you're creative eyes or cheeks.


'Girl About Town' lipstick by M.A.C
this is one of M.A.C's infamous, classic lipsticks and I don't know why I don't already own it;

I'm still in the process of 'Skin Challenge 2010', which I guess is now 'Skin Challenge 2011' and using a lot of trial and error trying to find my Holy Grail items; Currently there are a few things I would consider Holy Grail items in my skincare routine. Those being sudocreme for spot healing and cetaphil moisturizer. I've also been trying a lot more at home facial scrubs and masks and will probably discuss my favorites in more depth in further posts.
